Not all watches were created equal –if you work in construction, you can’t wear the same type of watch the common office worker would wear to work. You need something that is tough and can withstand everyday use, whether you work around heavy machinery or wires all day long.
I understand that finding the perfect watch that matches that hard career isn’t exactly easy, so I have set out to save you some time. Below is my personal list of durable watches for construction workers …
Casio Men’s Pro Trek PRW 3500 Series Solar Powered Digital Watch
This watch for Casio is great for everyday wear, and if you’re the type of guy that loves unique features in every gadget you have, you’re going to like this one. This is the first Protrek watch that is both Triple Sensor Ver. 3 and water resistant (up to 200 meters).
This watch comes with the latest technology, which I feel will come in handy. You’re probably wondering about the features, like the Triple Sensor Ver. 3. Basically, with the triple sensors, we’re able to pack sensors that are ninety-five percent smaller than the previous models. With smaller sensors, this means the size of the watch is reduced. Not only is there a reduction in size, but this function also makes it more energy efficient and the reading accuracy is better. Since the watch is energy efficient, this means that your watch isn’t going to run out of battery as fast as the earlier models. In the triple sensors, the “three” word means that there are three features that are a part of the main feature: barometric pressure, compass bearing and temperature.
A digital compass will come in handy when doing construction work for a variety of reasons. The digital compass replaces the original compass, but that is perfectly fine. With a digital compass feature, you can guarantee the precise location where you’re located.
The next part of the triple sensor feature would be the Altimeter measurement. With this feature, you will be able to measure the altitude of the place you’re currently at. Every two minutes, the altitude measurement is updated.
The third part of the triple sensor feature would be the barometer. This feature is capable of giving a precise prediction of the weather patterns. The barometer that is in this watch will give you a reading every two hours and automatically store the readings. On the main display, you will find the barometric pressures.
- Amazing features
- Affordable Price
- Great for smaller wrists
- Triple sensors
- The display may be too small for some people
Who is it Suitable for?
With the digital compass and altimeter measurement, this watch is great for the construction worker that is in charge of the plans. The barometer measurement will come in handy if you live in an area where the weather changes without warning. Also, take note that this watch is solar powered, which makes it perfect for the average construction worker that is working outside because the natural light will recharge the battery.

Bertucci Men’s 12122 A-2T Watch
As a construction worker, you will want a watch that is capable of withstanding your duties, but at the same time, you may want something that has a unique look to it. This watch from Bertucci is a suitable choice for numerous reasons.
Construction workers need something that is scratch resistant, correct? When you’re working in construction, you will be working with tools and heavy duty equipment. For this reason, having a watch that is scratch resistant means you won’t have to worry about scratching the glass. You’re in luck because that is exactly what this watch it – scratch resistant. The crystal has a bevel around the edge and feels very thick, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t stand up against most bumps and knocks.
When you put the Bertucci Field Watch on, you’ll feel ready to take on the next job (while watching for break time). The ergonomic design is a big hit amongst construction workers around the world – this is the type of watch that can be worn by people that are doing even the most demanding tasks.
The band is a bit different but in a good way. The buckle and clasp is something I personally like, and I know many construction workers that like this type the most because it can be easily removed if needed. The band actually goes through the watch, so when you’re working, you don’t have to worry about it catching on something, falling off, or breaking a pin.
One of my personal favorite features would be the luminous technology on the hands, making it easy to tell time. It’s so bright that it is even noticeable when the sun is shining.
- Water resistant to 100 M
- Luminous technology
- Scratch resistant
- The offset crown is nice
- Hard to read the date
Who is it Suitable for?
Basically, it’s suitable for every construction worker, but I believe it would be great for those working in carpentry. With carpentry, you’re dealing with shaping, cutting, and installing materials, so you need a watch that can hold up to all of that.
- US Patented 40 mm sand blasted matte finish solid titanium case offers extreme durability and lightweight comfort
- US patented two ply nylon Bertucci band offers unmatched durability and comfort. Manufactured using box stitch construction and all metal hardware and grommets.
- Scratch resistant hardened mineral glass crystal
- Ergonomically offset at 4 o'clock screw down crown. Rugged screw down case back
- Water-resistant to 100 M (330 feet)
Casio PRW 6000Y-1ACR Solar Powered Watch
While the G-Shock series from Casio has won over the sports fans, the ProTrek line is great for all outdoor adventures. The PRW-6000Y-1A looks like it is made with construction workers in mind.
The dial is large, but there’s a smaller function dial on the watch and the wide array of digital smarts this ProTek has might just be exactly what you’re looking for. Casio’s Version 3 Triple Sensor technology is the heart of it all – this is what’s responsible for the barometer, altimeter and compass. Coupled with this, you have atomic timekeeping, a thermometer and a solar powered battery (how can a watch go bad when it’s solar powered and you’re working in the sun throughout the day?).
While you’re working, you don’t want to feel like you’re strapped down by time any more than you already feel, right? With this watch, it may have a weighty side to it, but it’s super comfortable. When you first put it on, the carbon fiber band may seem unnecessary, but this is the type of band that is going to live on forever.
The actual watch will do pretty good in the water. You can go for a light swim and it isn’t going to break – it’s water and sweat resistant. So, if it rains while you’re working, you won’t have to worry about your watch getting ruined.
The compass and altimeter have buttons of their own, so you can use either one whenever you please. In descending and ascending elevation, the altimeter on the watch is reliable, but it is important that you perform calibrations on a regular basis. Altitude is something that is calculated based on barometric pressure, so it wasn’t always one hundred percent accurate. The compass, however, was one hundred percent accurate each time it was tested.
- Looks great
- Atomic timekeeping
- A bit on the heavy side
Who is this Suitable for?
For an outdoor adventure, this watch may be lacking in some departments. However, for a construction worker that would like to keep a look out on the weather patterns, keep tabs on the total ascents and descents and always know what time it is, this watch is more than enough. Nesting with all of the smart functions, the watch has the looks as well, which is an additional bonus.
- Multi-Band Atomic Timekeeping, Tough Solar Power, Smart Access, Tough Movement, Auto hand home position correction
- 100M WR, Low Temperature Resistant, Altimeter, Digital Compass, Barometer, Thermometer, World Time,5 Daily Alarms
- Hourly Time Signal,12/24 Hour Formats, Solar Rechargeable Battery, Power Saving Function, Approx. Battery Life: 6 months on full charge (without further exposure to light)
Garmin Fenix 5X
When it comes to their watches, Garmin never really was the type that let sizes get in the way of technology. They simply put it all in one big bundle and expect everyone to like it. However, the company made an announcement stating that their Fenix 5 series would be available in three sizes – the monster Fenix 5X (that’s the biggest one, of course), followed by two smaller versions (that’s the 5 and 5S). If you ask me, that’s called giving people what they ask for, so that was a good call on Garmin’s behalf. Yet, there are still many out there that like the large watches, and personally, I feel those type would be great for construction workers.
The size and shape of the Fenix 5X is a lot like the Fenix 3 HR. Looking at them side by side, you’ll find that they have the same five-button layout and the round face. There’s two buttons on the right side and three on the left. They also both have the same sapphire crystal lens and stainless steel bezel.
The case on the Fenix 5X is water resistant up to 10 ATMS. It is 17.5 mm thick and 51 mm in diameter and includes an optical heart rate monitor located on the back (just like the Fenix 3 HR). However, Garmin stepped it up a notch with the Fenix 5X by including a 240 x 240 pixels screen, as opposed to a 218 x 218 LCD screen. This has made the screen detail even better.
The 5X has a new band system that is referred to as the Quickfit. With this technique, now you can easily switch bands without having to use any tools. So, if you’re the type of person that likes to switch bands around, this is a technique you’re going to enjoy.
As far as technology goes, the Fenix 5X basically has everything you would expect a smartwatch to have. It has preconfigured apps for tracking mountain biking, road cycling, running, hiking, swimming, skiing, snowboarding, rowing, stand-up paddling and golfing. Via ANT+, it can pair to all manner of sensors – this includes cadence sensors, cycling power meters, temperature sensors, running dynamic pods and much more. When you pair it with a compatible smartphone, it can receive text messages and notifications, and a couple of lines from your emails.
If all of this just isn’t enough for you, you can use Garmin’s Connect IQ store (yes, it’s compatible). I’m not sure if you’re familiar with this store, but it features a wide array of downloadable apps that you can use in order to add even more functions.
The mapping is something that really stands out from all of the other watches. This watch features GPS mapping in full color and it shows up directly on the watch dial. This includes labeled lakes, roads, trails and mountains. There’s even searchable items like restaurants, points of interest, gas stations, stores, and more. All you have to do is choose your location and the watch will give you turn-by-turn directions to get there. The 5X can do all of this without having to be connected to a smartphone or any other device.
- Compatible with Garmin’s Connect IQ store
- Built to last
- Can switch bands out
- Mapping technology
Who is this Suitable for?

The Nixon Mission has “construction worker” marked all over it. Not literally, but it looks like the type of watch a construction worker would like to wear. It’s large, it’s tough, and it’s strong …that’s what the Nixon Mission watch is all about.
When Nixon thought of this watch, it is obvious that they were out to create something that was a bit different – something that would stand out from the crowd and I must say, they did a great job at it. This particular watch was basically designed for water surfers.
This is a large watch. It doesn’t just have that chunky appearance, it IS chunky. It’s close to the size of Garmin’s Fenix 5X. However, as a construction worker, you’re going to want something that is large in size.
The Nixon Mission is one of the best Android water resistance watches I can find currently on the market. Most waterproof watches out there tell you not to deliberately submerge them in the water. However, this one can go 100m in depth and still work just fine. However, this is expected since this watch was made with surfers I mind.
The sides of this watch are made of strong polycarbonate plastic. However, the case back and the bezel are 316L steel. If you take a close look at the watch, you’ll see that the bezel is raised above the Gorilla Glass that is covering the display. The watch doesn’t just have normal paint on it – it’s called Cerakote. This is a ceramic coating that is waterproof, super hard and corrosion-resistant – this type of paint is also used on guns.
This watch has all of the expected apps, and it can even receive notifications as long as you have your smartphone paired with it. It even has GPS support, and it’s compatible with those popular fitness apps (for those construction works that want to get some time in at the gym during their off days).
The toughness of this watch is why I just had to include it on this list. There’s a flap located on the left side and yes, it looks weird but it’s there to cover the microphone. Before you get near water, it is important that you have the microphone covered and locked because open, it’s not water resistant due to the fact that it’s a hole leading into the shell of the watch.
Even though the watch has that bulky look and feel to it, believe it or not, it is still comfortable. The mixture of steel and polycarbonate construction means it’s lighter than the diving watches made of all-steel.
The watch can even be used with any pair of Bluetooth headphones, so you can listen to music that you have downloaded to the watch, without using any other device. As an additional bonus, you can even use it as a remote shutter when taking pictures using Google Camera through your phone.
- Can use it in water
- Strong construction
- Built to last
- Useful apps
- Mapping technology

This watch is good for all construction workers, but for those construction workers that work near water building bridges, docks, or any other type of structure, the Nixon Mission would be a great choice.

Cat Watches Men’s LB11127137 Motion Analog Display Watch
As a construction worker, I am sure you’re probably familiar with the Caterpillar brand, especially if you work around heavy machinery. Caterpillar has been up and running strong for over 80 years – they’re the largest maker of mining and construction equipment, industrial gas turbines and natural and diest engines. They are known for going above and beyond in their products and you can always count on new high technology with them. The same idea is applied to their watches. In this case, I found the Cat watch LB11127137 watch (in the classic Cat yellow, of course).
Cat watches are made from the high-quality materials in order to make sure they can stand up to even the toughest jobs you put them through. As you would expect, this watch is durable, reliable and made with cutting edge technology.
Looking at the classic yellow/black design on the dial (the dial is 45.5mm in diameter), it just screams “Cat” and that’s a good thing – in the construction world if you wear this, your supervisors are going to know you’re serious business. The rubber strap is yellow as well.
As expected, this watch is also water resistant to 330 feet, which is really good. As a construction worker, I’m sure having a water-resistant watch is important to you, especially if you work out in the rainy weather, or near water.
Who is this suitable for?
This is suitable for a construction worker that is serious about their work in the construction industry. Regardless of the work, whether you’re an electrician or a heavy equipment operator, this watch is suitable for you. It has everything you need, and then some – plus, who can turn away from the classic Cat color? This watch really does a great job at standing out from the crowd.
- Black/yellow dial, 45.5mm diameter, yellow rubber strap, acrylic crystal
- Water resistant 100 M 100, resin case, stainless steel case back, movement: citizen 2035

With names like Garmin, Nixon, Casio, and Cat, you already know it’s going to be a good watch. So, as long as you choose one from this list, you can rest with the satisfaction of knowing you chose one that was made for your construction job.
